The school provides a device for a trial period and if the trial proves successful, the parents are encouraged to purchase a device so the student can have access to a communication device at all times. Ipod touch devices, with the addition of a speaker, can also be used in this manner. With the addition of the Proloquo2Go communication App, these devices can also be used as a very effective communication device while capitalising on the "cool" factor of ipads. These devices are very motivating for our students and the wide range of Apps available provide a variety of learning experiences. There are currently approximately 80 ipads in use across the school. With the NSSCF funds received in 2011, we have set up a very successful ipad program. They support different learning styles and enable students to be truly active learners.

The interactive screen- specific software and the screens have increased student engagement, motivated students and promoted an enthusiasm for learning. Interactive screens are touch sensitive and enable easier access to teaching and learning situations for individual and groups of students. To facilitate student access to computers and programs, peripherals including Big keys keyboards, switches, switch adapted mice, interactive whiteboards and touch monitors are available.Īll classrooms also have interactive screens. All networked computers have internet access.

Since I have obtained registrations with the Health and Care Professions Council and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in the UK I was awarded a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Speech and Language Therapy in 2010, at City University London. I have experience in working from the Nuffield Dyspraxia programme, The Social Thinking Curriculum, TEACCH and Attention Autism. Some of the training I have attended includes Makaton, Cued Articulation, Colourful Semantics and the Shape Coding Model. I carry out assessments and intervention with the child at its core and build positive relationships with families, school staff, and other professionals to ensure a collaborative team approach.ĭeveloping and updating my knowledge and skills as a practitioner is important to me, and I welcome opportunities to learn about new research and interventions. I am passionate about working with children who have communication difficulties and believe in building their confidence and finding motivating and creative ways to engage them so that they are able to achieve their maximum potential. My experience has included social communication difficulties and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. 
My specialism is working with children aged 3-5 years with language delay or speech sound difficulties. I have 10 years of experience working in the National Health Service (NHS) and private practice in England. Proloquo can also act as a talking word processor and advanced speech engine for KeyStrokes on-screen keyboard and SwitchXS users. Proloquo2Go is a new product from AssistiveWare that provides a full-featured communication solution for people who have difficulty speaking.
My name is Jemma and I am a speech and language therapist from the UK. To aid those who benefit from combined visual and auditory reinforcement, Proloquo provides speech feedback while typing and the ability to speak what is below the cursor so the user can both see and hear the words.
